Parvovirus B19 belongs to the Parvoviridae family of small DNA viruses. It is classified a5 Erythrovirus because of its capability to invade red blood cell precursors in the bone marrow.
Anti-Parvovirus antibody targets the capsid proteins VPl and VP2 on Human Parvovirus. Parvovirus B 19 infection has been implicated in spontaneous abortion in humans; thus, application of this antibody to placental tissues in such cases is appropriate. Parvovirus B 19 is also associated with Erythema Infectiosum (Fifth Disease) in children and Acute Arthritis in adults, as well as Chronic Hemolytic Anemia, with some patientsexperiencing Aplastic crisis
